The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has entered into a strategic partnership with GMind AI to develop an artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to deliver contextualised and simulated lesson plans for Nigerian classrooms.
Speaking at the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing in Abuja on Wednesday, TRCN Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Ronke Soyombo, said the initiative will transform lesson preparation and significantly improve teaching quality nationwide.
She announced that the platform will officially launch on October 6, preceded by the unveiling of TRCN’s redesigned website on August 25, featuring multilingual video guides. This will be followed by nationwide training sessions for teachers across the country’s six geopolitical zones.
“We want AI-generated lesson plans that are tailored for our children, with each lesson also simulated so that 21st-century learners can see and experience concepts for deeper understanding,” she explained.
Unlike generic tools, the TRCN-GMind AI system will integrate Nigerian history, culture, and lived realities into lessons. “Our children can still learn about the Victorians, but they must also learn about the Ife and Benin Kingdoms in the same breath,” she noted.
The platform will provide two categories of resources: AI-generated lesson plans with simulations for digitally skilled teachers and Prescriptive, ready-to-use lesson plans for teachers with limited ICT skills, ensuring inclusivity.
The comprehensive resource bank will span all subjects and be accessible online, through TRCN state offices, and in downloadable formats. It will also differentiate content for gifted, average, and less able learners, with a strong emphasis on hands-on learning.
“This is teachers supporting teachers,” Dr. Soyombo said, adding that outstanding educators will contribute to designing prescriptive lesson plans. “Once the burden of lesson planning is reduced, teachers can focus on adapting materials to suit their learners’ needs.”
While the system is primarily tailored for Nigerian educators, it will be open to all TRCN-registered and licensed teachers.
Dr. Deji Ajani, GMind AI’s Director of Strategic Partnership and Innovation, described the project as a flagship example of AI for education in Africa. “We are excited to co-create TRCN AI, a customised ecosystem that blends cutting-edge technology with Nigeria’s unique educational needs,” he said.
