Immunization Against Polio Kicks Off In Kogi

Parents in the state have been charged to make their children available for the ongoing polio vaccination to kick polio out of the state.

The state commissioner of health Doctor Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza gave the charge in a message to the flag off of polio vaccination campaign and African vaccination week in lokoja.

Doctor Abdulazeez who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Dorcas Enehe said the programme was to prevent and protect the collective future of children.

He appealed for collaboration with all stakeholders in the health sector to kick polio out of the state through vaccination.

The Executive Director Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Doctor Mauzu Omeiza said this year’s Polio Vaccination Campaign which commenced from twenty sixth of this month to twenty ninth is targeted at children aged zero to fifty nine months who are most vulnerable groups.

Doctor Mauzu urged caregivers and parents to cooperate with vaccination teams who will be going from house to house across the state to ensure that no eligible child is left unvaccinated.

The Executive Director commended health workers, community mobilizers, partners and volunteers for making the campaign efficient and possible.

In his good will message the Ohiegba of Mozum Doctor Bukar Khalid onbehalf of religious leaders and traditional rulers promised to support the government at all levels to ensure that eligible children are immunized.

There were also good will messages from the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and NPHCDA.

High light of the occasion was the flag off of the immunization exercise by the permanent secretary of the ministry on behalf of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the immunization of selected children present at the venue.
