Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timoty Ojoma says the State produces the best quality of cashew in the country.
Hon. Timothy stated this on Monday while speaking on this week’s edition of State of Kogi, a Radio Kogi Audience Participatory Program.
The Commissioner who said about sixty percent of cashew nuts are exported from the State, noted that the State government is looking at how to utilize fully the potentials in the value chain in cashew by engaging several investors to build factory in the state.
“We can’t be exporting cashew nuts outside the State without getting the benefits, once it comes back it becomes very costly thing that are beyond the reach of the common man even the producer of cashew nuts so Kogi State Government is looking at partnering with investors to ensure that we have cashew factory .”
On the initiative of government to promote organic farming, conservation agriculture and climate resilience agriculture in Kogi State, the Commissioner said the present administration has taken deliberate steps to ensure that Agriculture is being practiced in mechanized way to improve food production.
He appreciated Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his intervention in security which has reduced the farmers/herders clashes in Kogi State.
While noting that the challenges of Agriculture are enormous, the Commissioner appealed to investors to invest in the State Agriculture sector.
A caller, Bishop from Lokoja, appealed to the Commissioner to carry people with disability along in the scheme of things.
Another caller, Achor Man U from Ejule in Ofu Local Government and Suleiman from Egume in Dekina Local Government Area appreciated the government for its efforts in the Agriculture sector.
