The Executive Chairman Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe has promised to foster a culture of tax awareness and compliance among youth in the state.
Alhaji Sule Salihu stated this during Maiden tax quiz competition organized by Kogi State Internal Revenue Service in partnership with the Ministry of Education in Lokoja.
The Maiden Quize competition with the theme ‘Catch Them Young’ is organized to educate students about taxation, to empower them to become responsible citizens and future leaders.
The Chairman represented by the Director Administration, Information and Technology, Mr Alexious Akande said the initiative is to educate and inspire the next generation of taxpayers in the state.
Mr Alexious Akande expressed gratitude to all the partners of the competition saying together the state can build a brighter future for youth and ensure a sustainable tax system for the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Hon.Wemi Jones represented by the Deputy Director Basic and Secondary Schools Education, Mrs Obakachi Felicia Ohunene, sayid the competition is organized to promote awareness and understanding of taxation in Kogi state.
hon Wemi reaffirmed Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to make Kogi state one of the top five states for business forum across the west African countries through the development of good taxing system.
The Commissioner encouraged the students to utilize the platform to enhance themselves in the area of tax systems in the state.
In his remarks,The Director,Tax comptroller,Kogi state Chapter,Dr Dunson Yakson Sanda highlighted the concept of Tax and its importance in the development and growth of particular state.
Dr.Dunson Yakson Sanda said payment of tax strengthens government policies and programmes in the state and encouraged individual to follow suit by paying tax regularly.
He stated the consequences attached to non payment of tax by individuals in the state.
Four schools participated in the competition with Crowther Memorial College emerging as the third runner up, Muslim Community Secondary School as First runner up, Government Science Secondary School as second runner up while Harmony International College emerged as the winner.
