NORTHERN SENATORS’ FORUM SEEKS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION TO RESTORE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY IN KANO, KATSINA, JIGAWA STATE

The Northern Senators’ Forum(NSF)has urged the Federal Government to promptly intervene to restore electricity supply in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.

Chairman of NSF, Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’adua made the appeal in a statement in Abuja on Saturday.

Yar’adua decried the dire situation of electricity supply in the region, saying. that the power outages was occasioned by vandalism and national grid disturbances.

He said the situation had brought economic hardship, compromised healthcare delivery, and resulting in further expensive fuel costs on citizens.

According to the statement, small businesses were struggling to operate, while hospitals were experiencing increased running costs, nothing that the issue had impacted livelihoods .

The Senator said the Northern Senator’s Forum acknowledges the progress made in power distribution under the current administration and appreciates efforts to improve the sector.

He, however, said the situation demands urgent attention to alleviate the suffering of constituents and revitalize economic activities.

The forum respectfully requests the Federal Government to prioritize repairs on the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines to restore reliable power supply.
